CALABASAS, California — Calabasas has reported new federal support for a planned phase of its Citywide Green Street Project, an effort to capture and clean stormwater before it reaches local creeks.
What the funding supports
In a March 20, 2026 city newsletter, officials described federal support presented by U.S. Representative Julia Brownley. A March 21 report published by Brownley’s office specified $850,000 for the Calabasas Citywide Green Streets Project.
The city’s Green Streets project description identifies work proposed along Mureau Road and western Calabasas Road, including planted stormwater-treatment areas, improved pedestrian space and other roadway treatments.
Why this matters to residents
When rain runs off asphalt and other paved surfaces, it can carry oil, sediment, trash and other pollution into storm drains and natural waterways. Green-street features such as bioswales and permeable surfaces are designed to slow and filter that runoff. The city also describes potential benefits for people walking or cycling near redesigned corridors.
Funding does not establish a construction date
The funding announcement is an important step, but it does not confirm that all proposed improvements are under construction or completed. The city’s program page says it is continuing to seek funding for phases of the broader initiative.
Residents who want to see which street sections are proposed and which phases are finished can review the city’s official Green Streets page. The completed Las Virgenes Road phase should not be confused with future work on other corridors.
